Week 9

An interesting end to the regular season. Emory and ACS both had one loss going into the final game against each other. The outcome would determine the first place finisher. Emory took an early lead and ACS came back. ACS was down by two going into the bottom 6th and were able to tie it up. Lo and behold darkness became a factor for the start of the 7th and the captains decided to call it ending the game in a tie. That gave Common Threads, who beat Trees, sole possession of 1st and 2nd and 3rd place was determined by run differential over the entire season. Emory just edged out ACS in this category and thus put them in 2nd place.

The early games saw Habitat take an early 6-0 lead against Carter and it looked like they were on their way to their first win of the season, only to see Carter score 5 runs in each of the last two innings to dash their hopes. The other game saw a determined High give BGCA a run for their money only to come up a little short.

Week 8

Still three teams at the top with one loss a piece. It will all come down to the final week of the regular season to determine a first place finisher. It should be exciting.

Week 7

There are no longer any undefeated teams as Common Threads upended ACS to give them their first loss of the season. There are now three teams with one loss. First place is now a three-way race and will be determined in the final two weeks of the regular seasonThe other early game saw Boys & Girls explode for 11 runs in the first on their way to a 20-4 victory over Arthritis.

The late games saw Trees improve to .500 with a victory over Habitat and a surging Carter Center defeat The High.

Week 6

ACS remained undefeated the easy way in an early game as The High couldn't get enough women out and had to forfeit. In the other early game Habitat gave Boys & Girls a good game but were still unable to muster that first win. Boys & Girls meanwhile improved to 3-2 and continued their ascent back to the top of the heap.

In one of the later games a short staffed Arthritis may have done well to forfeit as they ran up against a relentless assault from a rebounding Common Threads team. In the other late contest Emory and Trees played a hard fought match with Emory taking the win and improving to 5-1.

The post-game was the best of the season with at least five teams filling up tables on Mellow Mushroom's patio.

Week 5

Week 5 saw some great games played. One early game featured an old school match up between an undefeated ACS and the always competitive Carter Center. It turned out to be an an extremely tight contest with Carter Center almost pulling off the upset. Alas, ACS pulled it out with a one run victory to remain undefeated. But the most misleading record is the Carter Center at 1-4. They could win any given week. Look for them to explode in the playoffs.

The other early game pitted The High against a rejuvenated Trees team. This was a see-saw battle that saw Trees eventually pulling ahead for good and recording the victory.  After a slow 0-2 start Trees is now even at 2-2. The High are always in it and will try and knock ACS off their throne in Week 6.

Another undefeated team, Common Threads, was featured in one of the late games. Unfortunately for them they ran into the always dangerous Emory team who came away with the win and improved their record to 4-1. Both teams are in the top tier and will try to continue their winning ways in Week 6. Perhaps Common Threads will be sure to bring Ping back out this week.

The other late game saw a tight contest between Habitat and the AF. Arthritis was able to pull out the win but only after a valiant comeback effort from Habitat. Habitat will go for their first win of the season against a resurgent Boys & Girls in Week 6 and the AF will try and even up their record against a tough Common Threads team.

Week 1

The 2008 season got off to a hot start, literally. It felt like August of the 2007 season with the 90+ degree temperature on Opening Day.

The early games were rematches from the 2007 playoffs, Arthritis vs a newly combined Emory team and Boys & Girls vs eventual 2007 champion Cancer. The outcome didn't change from last year, only the scores were a little more lopsided. A very rusty Arthritis Foundation squad was no match for a heavy-hitting Emory force. Perenial powerhouse Boys & Girls, missing some key personnel including player/manager Frank Sanchez, had a tough go of it against ACS, a strong returning championship squad despite losing veteran player/manager Lee Nazal.

The twilight games were more tightly contested battles. Softball rookies Habitat made it a close game but were edged out by one run against The High. The once formidable Carter Center returned to form against a tough Trees squad coming out on top by four runs.
